JANUARY 2000 - SEPTEMBER 2001


I wonder where I should start. So much has happened since the last time I wrote in Micky's Journal. I'm sorry all for taking so long; but, after all that Micky and the rest of the family went through, I needed a break.

From January 2000 - April 2000 .. Micky was still having chemo and being tested weekly. Her chemo treatment was over in April 2000 and then it was just to the clinic for testing every week. That was mixed feelings time. We wanted her off the chemo; but, would the leukemia come back if there was no chemo?

From April 2000 - April 2001 .. We were looking forward to the time we didn't have to be constantly on the road. One night a week to the hospital to have her blood tested and then the next night over to her Drs. office to get the results once a month for 3 months, the 4th monthly checkup to the clinic. This went on for a year. And ALL IS STILL GOOD :-)

From April 2001 - Sept 2001 .. It has slowed down and is getting a lot better .. once every 3 months now .. Wow .. what a shock. All is still Good .. :-)

Now onto what Micky has been doing. Until The Chemo stopped she was still very sick from it and was not herself at all. It took a few months for all that to leave her system and she started to show interest in doing the things that most children take for granted. In June 2000, Nanna bought a holiday trailer to take the kids camping. Well, the first weekend Nanna was going to take them out, Micky said she wasn't going to no lake and not camping. She wasn't going to sleep in water. LOL The poor girl had never been to a lake or camping in her life so she didn't know what it was even. So Mom and Dad had to bring her over to see the camper. When she saw it and went inside, she decided it wasn't too bad at all and she was looking forward to going that weekend. Her Mom and Dad came over and dropped the kids off at our place and we headed out to the campground where their uncle was camping and their Mom and Dad headed out to pick up their car from the shop where it was in for repairs. The next day an aunt got a phone call from the Mom and Dad and was told to come out to tell us ... On their way home after picking up their car a truck hit them right where Micky always sits and destroyed their car and the Mom had to go to the hospital. So there is an angel out there looking after that little girl .. she was safe with us. :-) Micky had so much fun at that camping trip chasing butterflies and bugs .. (if it moved she tried to catch it with her net) that we took them out again in Aug. She enjoyed that trip as much as the first one. :-)

In Sept. Micky started school 1/2 days (in the afternoon) and she did enjoy it but wouldn't talk. After much testing it became obvious that she was a selective mute (her way of protecting herself from all the trauma she went through all those years). So another thing that had to be worked on and she is slowly coming out of it unless there is something bothering her. She met a little friend at school and he helped her alot and got her talking before anybody else could. He gave her a ring; so I guess she is going to get married and she informed Nanna that she needs flowers for the wedding.

This Summer 2001 .. Micky has been out camping again with her family. Of course Nanna looses her truck and trailer while they go out. As a matter of fact, that is where she is now .. out camping. :-) Nanna has taken the kids to birthday parties of her cousins and at one of them she even rode down the big water slide with her aunt and loved it and the last one she got to ride on a hay ride .. she sure liked those horses. And 1 weekend Nanna took the kids out to the lake where their uncle was camping and they got to spend the day with their cousins playing in the sand and water. She loves the lake now .. but still doesn't like all that water too much yet .. Scares her .. ohh well .. the sand is fun too. So, finally after all of these years .. Micky and her brother are starting to do lots of fun things. This Sept 2001, Micky is back in school again, only 1/2 days still to get her stronger before the full days start and in the mornings this time. Next year if all goes well she will be full days.

She is growing like a weed and soon will be caught up with everybody else her age. And she has hair again and she loves it and gets quite upset when she has to go for a haircut. Scared it will be shaved off I guess. Can't blame her.

That is about all that has been happening in Micky's life lately. We have been trying to make it as normal as can be and I know she has sure been enjoying it.

I am placing a few pictures on here for all to see how she has grown and how well she is doing. Your prayers have helped her overcome this .. but this will never be overcome. Leukemia is a lifetime thing and it can come back any time and all we can do is continue praying and hoping for the best. Till next time .. I will close now with this .. Ohh Yes .. She went on a tour with some of her cousins to the firetruck plant. Yeap that is her new Baby cousin enjoying it all also. Micky loves her little cousin. I think it is a relief not to be the baby anymore of the family. LOL
